Since May of 2006, donations of publicly listed securities (shares, mutual funds, bonds and bills listed on a prescribed stock exchange) to charities are exempt from Canadian capital gains taxation. Making a gift of securities to the Festival of the Sound is quite simple. Meet with your broker or financial advisor to discuss the securities that you wish to donate, and then contact us at the Festival Office to inform us of your intentions and to get our account information. Your broker can transfer the funds electronically to the Festival’s brokerage account. You will be issued a charitable donation tax receipt for the full value of the security at the close of the day it is received. The Festival of the Sound will sell the securities without being subject to capital gains tax. You may direct your donation to our annual operating campaign or to the Charles and Lois Stockey Endowment Fund.
