The 2009 Note-by-Note Campaign: Let The Music Play On
In order that we may present exceptional concerts for at least 30 more seasons, we are conducting the “Note-by-Note” fundraising campaign. James Campbell has planned for many years to bring together enough of his colleagues to perform the Mozart Serenade for 13 Winds, Gran Partita. But each year, when it came time to trim the budget, he decided that we really couldn’t afford the extra players. This year, when the topic came up again, Executive Director Margaret Boyd would not let him cut it out and promised that we would find a way to do it. And that’s where you come in!
In addition to asking you to renew your support of the Festival with a donation to our annual campaign, we are inviting you to buy a symbolic musical note for $25.00 or a full bar of the Gran Partita for $100. Now you may ask if there is a special price for bars where the oboes and clarinets rest for a line or two. The answer is no, since we still have to pay them to count! More seriously, the performance of the Gran Partita on August 6 will be one not to be missed. This is the work that led Mozart’s rival Salieri to muse in the movie Amadeus, “It seemed to me that I was hearing the voice of God.” The campaign will continue through the summer season with the names of all contributors to the Note-by-Note campaign included in a memento of the evening that will be given to James Campbell with our thanks.
