Christina Choi
Korean-Canadian violinist Christina (Jung Yun) Choi gave her first concerto performance in 2006 with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Since then, she has performed at venues
including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and Walt Disney Hall. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Choi began playing the violin at the age of five. In 2006, she received a full music scholarship to attend boarding school in Brisbane, Australia, before moving to Canada in 2009, where she joined the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra as concertmaster. She later earned her Bachelor of Music degree on full scholarship from The Royal Conservatory of Music’s Glenn Gould School and was awarded the 2015 Hnatyshyn Developing Artist Grant. Choi completed her Master of Music degree at the Colburn School and continued her orchestral training as a fellow of the New World Symphony. During her fellowship, she won positions with the Auckland Philharmonia, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, where she has been a member since 2023. Her principal teachers have included Emin Tagiev, Atis Bankas, David Zafer, Mayumi Seiler, Barry Shiffman, Paul Kantor, and Martin Beaver.
