David Jalbert

A five-time Juno Award nominee, pianist David Jalbert is recognized as one of Canada’s leading classical musicians and was named by CBC among the 15 greatest Canadian pianists of all time. Renowned for his distinctive voice, refined musicianship, and compelling stage presence, he has earned critical acclaim from publications such as Gramophone, The WholeNote, La Presse, and The Toronto Star. Jalbert performs regularly across Canada and internationally as both a soloist and recitalist. His discography — including Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues, and Prokofiev’s complete works for solo piano in a three-volume set on ATMA Classique — has received widespread praise. In 2025–2026, he also presented Prokofiev’s complete piano sonatas in a three-concert cycle at Salle Bourgie. He has appeared with major orchestras including the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony of Ireland, the Victoria Symphony, and the Orchestre Métropolitain under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. A six-time Prix Opus laureate, he is Professor of Piano at the University of Ottawa and a faculty member at the Orford Music Academy. He is widely appreciated for the depth, clarity, and expressive immediacy of his playing.
