Hezekiah Leung

Praised for his “lovely lyricism” by The Calgary Herald and acclaimed by Chicago Classical Review for his “intelligent and diverse treatment of vibrato,” violist Hezekiah Leung has distinguished himself as a compelling performer, educator, and chamber musician on stages throughout North America and Europe. He is currently a member of the viola section of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. He also serves on the viola faculty at The University of Toronto and as chamber music coach at The Royal Conservatory of Music. Leung is the founding violist of the internationally celebrated Rolston String Quartet, laureate of First Prize at the 12th Banff International String Quartet Competition, as well as Grand Prize winner at both the 31st Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition and the Astral Artists National Auditions. With the quartet, he has appeared at many of the world’s foremost concert venues, including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, The Kennedy Center, The Louvre, and Koerner Hall. Their debut recording, *Souvenirs* (2020), devoted to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, was named Recording of the Year by BBC Music Magazine. During the 2022–2023 season, Leung appeared as violist of the Dover Quartet, with whom he continues to perform regularly as a guest artist. He has also held faculty appointments at the Curtis Institute of Music and the Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. A highly sought-after collaborator, Leung has shared the stage with many of today’s leading artists, including Tabea Zimmermann, Leif Ove Andsnes, Gilbert Kalish, Jon Kimura Parker, Miguel da Silva, James Dunham, Paul Neubauer, Yura Lee, Joel Quarrington, Andrés Díaz, Gary Hoffman, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Cho-Liang Lin, David Shifrin, and James Campbell.
